Nintendo Game Boy
Colour
In 1998, Nintendo released the direct successor to the massively popular Game Boy. Despite the success of the original, games developers pushed Nintendo to produce a new medium to support colour, and to iron out the hand held system. The Game Boy colour was the first hand held system to be fully backward compatible, supporting all previous Game Boy games, and even added a limited amount of colour to them.
The Game Boy colour was not just
about the colour though; the system itself had been slimmed out slightly, and
the new colour games integrated improved processors which had the ability to
double the speed of the system. An integrated infra red link up system was also
included, though this was only utilized for a handful of
games.
